If you haven’t heard of Mia Schoenbeck before the fall field hockey season, I’m sure you have by the end. Mia is a stand-out junior on the Wake Forest field hockey team. During the 2025 season, she was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year and NFHCA 1st Team All-American, to name a few. She is also a member of the USWNT and a Voodoo Athlete

Heading into her senior year soon, Mia shares some of her top 10 pieces of advice for incoming college freshmen who are making the transition from high school to collegiate field hockey.

  1. Your voice matters
  2. Have confidence in yourself that you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t deserve it
  3. Be yourself!
  4. Don’t fall into the college norm life
  5. Have fun, for the love of the game and those around you
  6. Stand strong in your beliefs
  7. No one wants to see you fail
  8. Everyone here has been in your shoes; use them to better yourself
  9. You’re never too young to lead
  10. Every moment matters, every touch on the ball, every word you speak, and everything you learn
