We’re thrilled to welcome Mia Schoenbeck as the first-ever Voodoo Sponsored Player in the Longstreth Athlete Program!

Originally from LaGrange, Kentucky, Mia has been playing field hockey since the age of six. She’s currently entering her junior year at Wake Forest University and was recently named to the U.S. Women’s National Team, earning her first cap during the New Zealand Series.

Fun Facts:

What stick do you use and why do you choose it?
I use the Voodoo Limitless TF Kon VXC stick. I chose this stick because of the ball control and aerial features it has, as well as a great hit and drag flick.

Do you have a grip preference? If so, which grip and why do you like it?
I use the Ritual Zeem grip. I find that this grip has the ability to absorb moisture while also not becoming all that wet itself. I also like the texture of the grip; it gives me a sturdier feel than most chamois.

How long have you been playing field hockey, and what made you first want to start playing?
I have been playing since I was 6 years old. I started playing due to my dad deciding I would probably be good at it. From the first time I touched the stick to now, I have loved the sport.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
One pregame ritual I have is meditation and a small yoga/stretching flow when time allows for it.

What's your go-to pre-game meal?
My go-to pregame meal is definitely oatmeal!

What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
My game day hairstyle tends to change, but is mainly a medium-height pony that is braided out.

Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
I tend to listen to calmer, Noah Kahan type music.

Describe your playing style in two words?
Aggressive and fast

What do you like to do when you are not playing field hockey?
I love hiking, knitting, reading, traveling, playing card games, and finding new coffee shops.

What is your favorite motivational quote?
Pressure is a privilege

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to stay true to who you are and enjoy every step along the way, for the good, bad, or sad that it is.

What is your favorite field hockey memory?
My favorite field hockey memory would probably have to be anytime I get to stand out on the field, college or WNT, and sing the national anthem with my teammates hand in hand.
