Fun Facts:
What stick do you use and why do you choose it?
I use the OBO STRAIGHT As stick. This stick was recommended to me by one of my coaches and immediately when switching from my old stick to my STRAIGHT As I could feel the difference. It allows me to make strong saves without being weighed down by a stick that's too heavy and incorporate my stick a lot more in game play.
What legguards, kickers, and helmet do you use and why did you choose them?
I use the Hi-Rebound Legguards. I loveeeee these and have used them for many years. They offer me a strong and flat surface to use to make clean and direct saves off any shot. They are also super helpful when working from the ground, giving me a reliable save every time.
How long have you been playing field hockey, and what made you first want to start playing goalkeeper?
I have been playing field hockey for nine years total, but have been a keeper for seven years. As a little kid, I always loved watching ice hockey goalies and would root for them over any field player. This led to me putting on the pads to try them out and quickly falling in love with the position. I loved the feeling of making the unexpected save and shutting down the other team.
Do you have any pregame rituals?
Pregame I have many different things I like to do to make sure I'm ready for the game. I always listen to good music that helps me focus. Along with that I love to get hype with my teammates. We dance and sing in the locker room together which is always super fun and helps shake any pregame nerves.
What’s your go-to pre-game meal?
My go to pregame meal is chicken, rice, and cooked carrots. It makes me feel fueled throughout the game without being too heavy and limiting my mobility.
What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
My go-to hair style is braids. Whether they're two dutch braids going down my head or a low pony into a braid or two that's been my go-to for awhile and hasn't let me down.
Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
This is a hard one as I have tons of pregame songs that I love and they all depend on the situation I am in. I love classic songs that everyone can sing along with like, since you've been gone, by Kelly Clarkson or Runaway baby by Bruno Mars.
Describe your playing style in three words?
I would describe my playing style as aggressive, explosive, proactive. I think these three suit me as a player because I always try to be the one to make the first move and let the field player respond to my movements. I think that this gives me a leg up in my ability to close space and cut off their good angle for a shot.
What do you like to do when you’re not playing field hockey?
When I am not playing field hockey, I enjoy doing nails and hanging out with my friends. I love watching scary movies and going on long drives with good music
Do you have any game day superstitions?
My jersey has always been a big superstition for me. The color has to correspond with the right team, whether it be home, away, or in tournament time. It's been the same since freshman year, and I'm sure it will stay that way for years to come.
What’s your favorite motivational quote?
My favorite motivational quote is to fail aggressively. I'm not completely sure who said it first, but I think that this is super important and something I incorporate a lot in my style of play. When playing goalie or really doing anything, I think that it is super important to go 100 percent, no matter what it is you're doing. It's always better to fail hard but know you did all that you could, than to go halfway and look back thinking about something that you should have done differently.
What are you looking forward to most in the upcoming season?
This upcoming season I am excited to finally be a senior on my high school team. After a very successful season this past year and losing a lot of very good seniors I can't wait to finally fill the leadership position that comes with being a senior.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
My favorite field hockey memory is when my sophomore year my team took a bonding trip to the Hocking Hills region of Ohio. This trip is my favorite because late at night when we were all lying down and talking there was a meteor shower. We saw so many shooting stars that night it was so pretty and definitely a night I will never forget.
