Fun Field Hockey Facts
What stick do you use and why did you choose it?
I use the 2024 Gryphon Tour Pro-25 Field Hockey Stick and I chose it because it has a moderate low bow and is 100% 6k carbon, making it versatile for shooting and defending! It’s both lightweight and powerful. I also fell in love with the gold and white paint.
Do you have a grip preference? If so, which grip and why do you have it?
I love the TK Hi-soft grip as it has a soft feel but won’t slip out of your hands when it rains. The selection of colors is also nice; I use the baby pink one myself!
How long have you been playing field hockey and what made you want to start playing?
I’ve been playing field hockey for eleven years! I grew up watching my older sister, Maddie, play forward at EA and Bucknell and realized from a young age I wanted to be just like her. Since then, I’ve learned to truly love the sport and have forged my own path as a defender.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Before I play, I like to visualize the game and the many ways it could go. This helps me create a strategy going in to help secure the win.
What’s your go to pre-game meal?
My pregame meal is anything I can quickly grab before running out of my dorm to warm-ups! Usually that means a pop tart or banana, but sometimes I get lucky and have enough time to microwave ramen. While not the healthiest, it certainly gives me energy.
What is your go-to game hairstyle?
My go to hairstyle is a slick back tied into a bun with bow clips to secure my hair (players with layers know). I also like to tie my hair up into a ponytail and let my front pieces hang loose with a larger bow clipped to the ponytail!
Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
My team and I have recently started listening to Spanish pop during the bus ride and warmups. I think it has the most positive vibe, and we also don’t have to worry about curse words since it’s in a different language!
Describe your playing style in three words.
Controlled, Smart, and Intense.
What do you like to do when you aren’t playing field hockey?
I’m really involved with the music scene in and outside of school. In school I sing in the ‘Hilltones & Hilltrebles’, a selected group of students who sing pop and other genres of music. I’m also a singer of a band called TST! We do covers of various songs and we’re thinking of writing our own music.
Do you have any game day superstitions?
On game day, our team does a shooting drill and if I do great, I know it’s going to be a fun game. If I hit a poor shot, I know there will be a little struggle. However, I believe that it’s up to the player to determine how the game ends.
What is your favorite motivational quote?
My old coach used to say, “We can do hard things” and it’s what I tell myself whenever I play a hard team, take a difficult test, or even just need to be strong in my personal life. It’s hard to believe when things seem so unlikely to go well, but I’ve found that the quote rings true. It especially helped me survive on hot days where we spent the entire practice conditioning.
If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?
Always be confident and always stay true to yourself, it’s the only way to win.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
My favorite field hockey memory must be the state championship last year. Our team won PAISAA for the first time in school history in 2022 which was amazing but 2023 was special to me. Despite the loss, the level of team play and determined energy on the field was nothing I’d ever experienced before, and I’ll remember it going into this season! Being ranked #1 in the country is very cool, too!
