Following at 7-1 win over St. Dominic, a 6-2 win over Ursuline, a 1-0 win over St. Joseph’s, and a 1-0 win over John Burroughs School, Villa Duchesne became the Missouri High School Field Hockey State Champions.
This win marked a record 15th State Championship for Villa and their 4th in the past 5 years. The game-winning goal scored off a corner opportunity came early in the second half from sophomore defensive midfield player turned forward Hannah Ponciroli, her 20th goal of the season.
The top-seeded John Burroughs team claimed the title last season and had an impressive run in 2024. In fact, they beat Villa Duchesne 3-0 on the road earlier this year, but the Saints got redemption when it mattered the most in the 2024 State Championship.
