Based on high school field hockey play from the week of September 9, Longstreth Field Hockey is excited to announce the second Player of the Week: Isabella Sanchez!
Isabella is a junior forward at Kingsway Regional High School in New Jersey. Through two games of play for the Dragons, she has scored 7 goals. In the season opener against Haddonfield, she scored a hat trick, and in Kingsway’s conference opener at Clearview on September 12, Isabella tallied all four goals in a 4-1 victory.
Kingsway Regional High School is currently ranked #6 nationally and #1 in New Jersey by MAX Field Hockey after back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023, Sanchez’s freshman and sophomore years, during which she had great success at a starting forward position. Though she made an impact during the Dragons’ 2023 playoff run and championship, Isabella, unfortunately, was sidelined for much of the season due to an injury.
Her coach, Dana Ott, is excited to see her “so successful this season” after missing time being hurt last year. Over the summer, she and the rest of the Kingsway team have prioritized staying healthy while working hard in preparation for the new fall field hockey season. They have incorporated fun conditioning and drills into training as well as team bonding activities to work hard while not overtraining.
Kingsway Regional High School Field Hockey has set their goal for the season to win the New Jersey State Championship for the third year in a row. Sanchez emphasizes the importance of the connection between each of the members of the team that has allowed them to achieve success in the past and at the beginning of the 2024 fall. Personally, currently navigating the recruiting process, one of Isabella’s main goals with hockey is to commit to play at a high-level Division I program.
With the MAX Field Hockey/Longstreth National High School Invitational approaching this weekend, Isabella and her Kingsway team have been practicing with intensity, focusing on fitness early in the week and technical skills on AstroTurf in preparation for a weekend of incredible competition and faster play. Isabella Sanchez is excited to have the chance to get back on the field with her teammates to test their connections at a higher level.
