My name is Niko Maumus, and I am incredibly honored to be the Longstreth Erin Matson Intern for the 2026 season!
I am a high school senior currently living in Madison, Alabama! I’ve been playing field hockey for ten years – the last eight of which have been spent in the cage. Being named the very first goalie to hold this internship is an absolute honor, and I’m thrilled to bring a unique perspective to the role.
In this blog, I’ll be opening up about my field hockey journey: pivotal career moments, the mental health side of sports, training in a non-traditional field hockey hub, and why this game is such a massive part of my identity. Inclusive of my own story, I’m excited to shine a spotlight on other amazing voices across our community.
Working with Longstreth to celebrate the game that means everything to me is a dream come true. Thank you for reading, and get ready – join me right here every Monday for In the Cage!
