We are so excited to announce that Ryder Obst has joined the Longstreth Athlete Program as a Gryphon Brand Ambassador!

Ryder is an avid field hockey player and currently plays for Oley Valley SD and Powerhouse FHC. She was recently invited to Regionals and was selected to play in the Junior Nexus Championship this summer. Her stick of choice is the Gryphon Taboo Striker which she likes because it assists with aerials and has a nice touch on the ball.

Fun Field Hockey Facts

What stick do you use and why do you choose it?
Gryphon XX3 Taboo Striker, the indent in the stick allows me to aerial the ball up the field. I also like the touch of the stick when I am on the ball.

What position do you play?
Right back and Defensive Center Midfield (DCM)

What School do you currently attend?
Oley Valley Middle School

How long have you been playing field hockey and what made you want to play?
I have been playing since I was in 2nd grade (6 years). Field hockey is a big sport at our school. My aunt Debbie encouraged me to play since she also played field hockey in school. 

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
I nap and listen to music.

Go-to pre-game meal?
Everything bagel with cream cheese

Favorite game day hairstyle?
I usually Dutch braid the front of my hair and pull all of my hair into a high ponytail. 

Favorite pump-up songs?
Dream by Imagine Dragons

How would you describe your playing style in 3 words?
Defensive, Quick, Big

What do you like to do when you’re not playing field hockey?
Read and Play computer games with my friends

Any game day superstitions?
I wear the same earrings and necklace.

Favorite motivational quote?

What are you looking forward to most for Fall 2024 season?
Finding out I made Junior Nexus Championship.

What’s one of your favorite field hockey memories?
Probably scoring the game winning goal during our championship game and then afterwards giving my dad the biggest hug ever.
