We’re excited to welcome Mara Boullion to the Longstreth Athlete Program as our newest OBO Ambassador!
Mara has been playing field hockey for the past 7 years. She plays club for FDL and for Ann Arbor Pioneer, where her team was the 2025 MHSAA State Champions! She’s also competed in the Nexus Championship and was named a MAXFH Class of 2029 Top Performer at the National Player Invitational back in July.

What stick do you use, and why do you choose it?
I just switched to the OBO ROBO Fatboy stick. I love
how much surface area it has, and the weight of the stick is great for clearing
the ball when I'm on the ground.
What legguards, kickers, and helmet do you use,and why did you choose the?
I do a lot of groundwork, and getting up fast is a high priority for me, so I use OBO Hi-Rebound Legguards. Their design helps me move on the ground with ease, and the increased surface area helps me feel more confident in my saves.
For clearing the ball, I use OBO Robo Plus Kickers; their large surface area helps me control the ball better and provides outstanding protection for my toes.
Protecting my head is my highest priority, so I use the OBO CK Carbon helmet because it offers great lightweight protection and visibility.
How long have you been playing field hockey and what made you first want to start playing goalkeeper?
I have been playing field hockey for 7 years now and I am going into my 5th year of playing goalie. I first tried goalie in my club's winter league because my team didn't have a goalie and my dad said “Tough girls play goalie”. After the 1st time I put on the pads, I fell in love and have never looked back.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
I always like to be the 1st person at the field so I have time to get into the right mindset before a game.
What's your go-to pre-game meal?
Before every high school game, I eat a rice cake with peanut butter.
What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
A low ponytail into 2 bubble braids. I change my hairstyle every time I'm not happy with how I play. The 2 bubble braids have been lucky for me.
Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
All I Do Is Win, Breakin’ Dishes, and Lip Gloss. At Pioneer, we have this tradition where we always have a dance party in the locker room to get hyped before home games. The last song we play is always “All I Do Is Win”.
Describe your playing style in three words?
Aggressive, adaptable, passionate
What do you like to do when you're not playing field hockey?
I love baking, hanging out with friends, and I will never say no to a farmers' market trip.
Do you have any game day superstitions?
It's not exactly a superstition but during high school season I switch up my game day hairstyle for the next game every time I let in a goal.

What are you looking forward to most in the upcoming season?
I love pioneer practices; we are all working towards a common goal. It is such a supportive and hard-working environment where we are all pushing each other to get better.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
I can't decide between a game and a moment, so I will give you both.
From a game perspective, my favorite memory is winning the 1st ever MHSAA Michigan state championship with Pioneer. The whole team played a great game, and it was the perfect ending to my freshman year.
From a team perspective, my favorite memories are from riding with my FDL teammates in
Vanessa (a transit van) to our tournament games.
What school do you go to?
I play field hockey for Ann Arbor Pioneer and go to school at Community High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
