We’re thrilled to welcome Emma DeBerdine to the Longstreth Athlete Program as a TK Sponsored Athlete!

Originally from Millersville, PA, Emma played collegiate field hockey at the University of Maryland, where she earned her degree in management studies. She joined the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2022, and her recent highlights with the team include becoming a 2024 Paris Olympian, earning her 50th cap at the 2025 FIH Nations Cup, and participating in the Ireland Series. She will also be competing in the upcoming New Zealand Series.

Fun Facts:

What stick do you use, and why do you choose it?
I use the TK U1+ Extreme Late Bow Composite Stick and absolutely love it! I choose it because I love the low bow and how it gives me so much control over the ball. This stick is elite by being the perfect weight and thickness, which allows me to bring power into my skills.

Do you have a grip preference? If so, which grip and why do you like it?
Yes! I have used Karakal grips for as long as I can remember. They make it easy to grip my stick comfortably, and I love the fun colors that they have as well.

How long have you been playing field hockey, and what made you first want to start playing?
I began playing field hockey in 2010, so about 15 years ago. I was asked to be a ball girl for my high school’s varsity team with a few of my friends, where I was able to learn and come to love the game. I was given a front row seat to watch some amazing hockey players, with a notable standout being future Olympian Jill Witmer.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
My pre-game rituals begin with going through our squad’s game plan for key reminders and then creating my personal objectives for the game. I then take some time to listen to my pregame playlist and visualize before coming together with the team for some soccer circle and connection!

What's your go-to pre-game meal?
I love breakfast food before a game. Give me all the pancakes and I will be thrilled!

What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
This changes for me quite a bit based on how I’m feeling. However, I tend to always fall back on a high bun.

Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
Woman – KE$HA

Describe your playing style in three words?
Fast, simple, relentless

What do you like to do when you are not playing field hockey?
When I’m not playing hockey, I love to read and go on walks. I also love spending quality time with my friends, family, and their pups.

Do you have any game day superstitions?
I used to use the same hair tie for every game, but I unfortunately lost it and had to get over that one!

What is your favorite motivational quote?
“You don’t have to be the biggest, strongest, or most talented to succeed. You just have to outwork everyone else.” – Erik Spoelstra

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to take a deep breath and take some pressure off yourself. You’re doing great!

What is your favorite field hockey memory?
My favorite field hockey memory has to be qualifying for the Olympics at the Olympic Qualifier in Ranchi, India. It was an unbelievable feeling to show the world how committed, exciting, and united our squad was and continues to be.

Another key field hockey memory for me would be the entire Olympic experience, even more so that I was able to share that experience with my older sister, Brooke. Walking onto the field together and seeing our family in the stands was just an unbelievable feeling.
