We are excited to welcome Emeline Schmittel into the Longstreth Athlete Program as a Gryphon Brand Ambassador!
Emeline has been playing field hockey for about 10 years and is a student athlete at William & Mary. Last semester, she earned CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll distinction during the spring and fall semesters. Fun fact about Emeline, her gameday superstition is that she does not play with her thumb inside her left-hand glove!
Fun Field Hockey Facts
What stick do you use and why do you choose it?
I use the Gryphon Taboo Blue Steel Deuce 2 because it offers me extra power on sweeps, ariels and hits up field. I also love the Gryphon touch for control on elimination skills.
Do you have a grip preference? If so, which grip and why do you like it?
I am not super picky about my grip but I do look for something a bit thicker up top.
How long have you been playing field hockey and what made you first want to start playing?
I started playing field hockey in 4th grade (about 10 years now) after moving from Cleveland, OH to Louisville, KY. Field hockey wasn’t huge in Ohio and my mom had played growing up so she registered me for my first team!
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
I do not
What's your go-to pre-game meal?
The night prior to a game my go to is pesto pasta.
What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
You can typically catch me in a high bun.
Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
Our team song this past season was Downtown by Macklemore

Powerful, passionate, and fearless
What do you like to do when you are not playing field hockey?
I love getting to experience all the outdoor activates that Williamsburg has to offer with my friends! From hiking to the fruit market, we are easily entertained here!
Do you have any game day superstitions?
I do not play with my thumb inside my left glove.
What is your favorite motivational quote?
Consistency over perfection.
If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?
Don’t take yourself too seriously, remember to have fun with it.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
Winning the CAA championship in 2023!!
