We are excited to welcome Claire Campen into the Longstreth Athlete Program as a Voodoo Brand Ambassador!

Claire is from Hawley, PA, and is a sophomore at Monmouth University. She had a breakout sophomore season, starting all 16 games and emerging as a consistent offensive threat in big moments. Claire finished the year with 12 goals, ranking among the team’s top scorers, including two game-winning goals. Her standout performance earned her First Team All-CAA honors and NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team recognition.

Fun Facts:

What stick do you use and why do you choose it?
I play with the Voodoo Limitless stick, and I chose this stick because it is light, allowing me to have quick hands for stick skills. It also has an immense amount of power, which is perfect for my favorite hit: the reverse chip.

Do you have a grip preference? If so, which grip and why do you like it?
I must play with a chamois grip, and I love it when the grip is a bright color that matches my stick! I love the Gryphon chamois grip because it allows me to succeed in any kind of weather we have to play in.

How long have you been playing field hockey, and what made you first want to start playing?
I have been playing field hockey competitively since I was 8 years old. I grew up watching my older cousins play the sport, and I always dreamed of playing myself one day. I decided to pick up a stick when a club started up in my local town.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
My favorite pre-game ritual is dancing and singing with my teammates in our locker room to get rid of any pre-game nerves. I also always write a small message on my wrist, “I can, I will,” to remind me to believe in myself.

What's your go-to pre-game meal?
I like to keep my pre-game meal super simple. My go-to is either a bagel and cream cheese or a chicken Caesar wrap.

What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
A favorite go-to game-day hairstyle is two braids tied into a messy bun.

Favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
Dog Days Are Over by Florence and The Machine. All-time favorite.

Describe your playing style in three words?
Strategic, skillful, resilient.

What do you like to do when you are not playing field hockey?
I love to spend time with my family and friends in my free time. I enjoy going for walks, and would never turn down trying a new coffee shop!

Do you have any game day superstitions?
I definitely am superstitious about my game-day hairstyle each season, so it is always the same. Another superstition is hitting the top of the door in the same spot on my way out to the field.

What is your favorite motivational quote?
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.”

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?
A piece of advice for my younger self is that so many lessons you get to learn through this sport have prepared me for hard things in life. The other piece of advice would be to all younger girls to never stop working toward the dream they have. The only person stopping you is yourself. Your body and mind can do incredible things when you work for it!

What is your favorite field hockey memory?
My favorite field hockey memory was getting to host the CAA tournament and playing on our own field. The amount of support from families and the Monmouth community was indescribable.
