As we head into late October, Indoor tryout season for my club and many others is coming up. With this in mind, I have a couple of tips to perform your best at Indoor tryouts this year!

Get an indoor stick in your hand!
The best way to prepare for any tryout is to simply get a stick in your hand and practice! At my club, Centercourt, we have indoor pickup games available for athletes of all levels. But, even if your club does not offer any formal preparation, just going on a carpeted floor in your house with an indoor stick can make all the difference during tryouts.

Watch an indoor game
Another great way to get back into the indoor mindset is to watch an indoor field hockey game. There are several highlight videos from last year's Indoor World Cup in Croatia. You can even watch our very own USA indoor team’s games on YouTube! Watching games helps you visualize indoor field hockey plays and strategies. It also serves as a reminder of indoor rules, especially the tricky ones!

Make sure you have the right equipment
Having the right equipment is essential for playing your best, especially in indoor. Just this
week, I was checking on my indoor gear and realized that my gloves had ripped since last
winter. Luckily, I did not panic and was able to order new ones quickly from Longstreth. Having quality equipment that you trust not only helps you be your best but also keeps you safe on the courts.

Hopefully, these tips can help you perform at your peak during tryouts. No matter what, just remember to have fun and enjoy playing. Indoor is all about learning new skills to apply in outdoor, so just keep a growth mindset and always give your best!
