Crestwood Field Hockey | Midfield/Forward | Electric Surge | Miami University (Ohio) Commit
For this week’s Longstreth Field Hockey Player of the Week, we are highlighting Crestwood High School junior Kasey Obes, a Top 100 junior and recent commit to Miami University of Ohio. Kasey has been making an impact for Crestwood this season with her energy, determination, and ability to create opportunities for her teammates.
On September 11, Crestwood faced The Hill School in a close matchup that went into overtime. With the game tied 1-1, Crestwood had an opportunity to finish the game in sudden death. Just 3 minutes and 47 seconds into overtime, Kasey scored the game-winning goal, giving Crestwood a 2-1 victory.
As a midfielder, Kasey plays an important role in helping her team move the ball up the field. She is constantly scanning the field, looking for opportunities to make plays and create chances for her teammates. During the overtime game, she knew her team had a chance to get the ball up the field and finish the game. “I knew we had a shot and could get the ball up the field,” Kasey said.
Kasey has been playing field hockey for nine years. She first got involved with the sport by attending camps through her club team, Electric Surge, when she was younger. Since then, she has continued to grow as a player and has become a key playmaker for both her club and high school teams.
Her coaches at Electric Surge and Crestwood have played a major role in her development throughout her career. Kasey says they have consistently pushed her to become a better player both on and off the field. Kasey also brings plenty of energy to every game. She described herself as loud and determined, always bringing energy whether she is on the field or on the bench. Her enthusiasm and positive presence make her an important part of her team beyond just what she contributes during games.
This season has also been an exciting one off the field for Kasey. She recently committed to continue her field hockey and academic career at Miami University in Ohio. One of the biggest things that stood out to her about Miami was the coaching staff and the team mentality. She especially connected with the idea that “making a mistake doesn’t mean failing.” For Kasey, that mindset is something she is excited to carry as she takes the next step in her field hockey career. Looking ahead, Kasey is most excited to get to know a new area, become part of a new team, and experience the intensity of Division 1 field hockey. She is also looking forward to the welcoming environment she has already experienced from her future teammates and coaches.
After nine years of playing the sport, Kasey has learned that hard work and determination can go a long way. If she could give her younger self one piece of advice, it would be to keep putting in the extra work, trust that it will all work out, and never stop trying.
From scoring a sudden-death overtime winner to earning a spot on the Top 100 Junior list and committing to play Division 1 field hockey, Kasey Obes continues to show what it means to bring energy, determination, and confidence to the field. We are excited to see what is next for Kasey and congratulate her on being this week’s Longstreth Field Hockey Player of the Week!
