Longstreth Sporting Goods is proud to announce that the inaugural recipient of the Erin Matson/Longstreth Internship is Cecilia Cowart, of Montclair, NJ.  Ceci is a senior at Montclair High School, is a nationally recognized high school field hockey player, and is planning to attend Wake Forest University to continue her academic and athletic career playing Division I field hockey.  This is the first year that Longstreth has partnered with Erin Matson to award a paid internship to a high school senior interested in journalism and/or marketing.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ceci to the Longstreth team as we expand our online content,” said John Schaefer, CEO of Longstreth Sporting Goods. “This internship provides an opportunity for high school students to hone their writing skills and to work alongside our marketing department, creating content, editing, and interviewing players, coaches, and personalities. Partnering with Erin, a proud graduate of the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina, made it a perfect fit.”

“I’m thrilled to work closely with Ceci as this year’s intern,” said Erin Matson, Head Field Hockey Coach at the University of North Carolina.  “This opportunity is about more than just a role.  It’s about shaping the next generation of leaders in our sport and providing the resources and guidance that set those who come next up for success.  I can’t wait to see the impact this experience will have, and the doors it will open!”

Ceci will work through into December, writing weekly blogs on high school hockey players and competitions across the United States. She will also work directly with Erin Matson to create periodic content as well. The internship will continue in 2026 through the spring, and Ceci will include some coverage of the club indoor hockey season.  So, please look for and enjoy the weekly blogs at Longstreth.com.

“This program allows for high school seniors to gain an understanding of how content can impact branding, and the overall marketing of an internationally recognized retailer,” said Nicole Ratke, Marketing Manager at Longstreth. “We use our platform to share stories of the game and have set a goal to specifically grow our high school content. We are thrilled to work with Ceci this year as she helps to give a voice and increase the visibility of these outstanding athletes!”
