After an incredible four years of play at Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine and a recent Maine Class A State Championship victory, Longstreth Field Hockey is excited to announce that Lucy Johnson is the High School Player of the Week! Lucy is without a doubt the top player ever in the entire state of Maine. She ended her high school career with a statement: 2 of her team’s 3 goals in the final against Brewer High School on November 9. In fact, this is the third State Championship title for the forward from Portland, Maine and Cheverus High School’s field hockey team. Over Johnson’s four years at Cheverus, her team won every single game except for one. The Cheverus Stags won their first championship in 2021 when Lucy was a freshman, then suffered that single loss to Skowhegan in the 2022 title game. In 2023, though, Johnson scored the goal to give her team the lead over the Skowhegan team to whom the Stags fell the prior year and secure the 2nd championship. This year was the third.
In her extremely notable final high school game, Johnson extended the state record for career goals scored, previously secured. Her second in the final game marked her 150th career goal. What an amazing feat! And though her incredibly successful high school career has ended, Johnson has plans to continue to play field hockey at Boston University next year.
