There’s nothing more magical than stepping onto the field with your team - the excitement, the hard work, and the shared determination between players and coaches. For some lucky athletes, this moment is made even more special because they’re not only playing the sport they love with their teammates, these athletes are also playing alongside family.
At the 2025 Max Field Hockey Invitational, nine mother-daughter duos took the field together. This is an incredible number for such a unique connection. Among them was Coach Nicole Huston of Whitney Point, NY, who had the rare privilege of coaching both her daughters: senior and Syracuse commit Genevieve Huston, and sophomore Anah Huston. For the Huston family, playing together has strengthened their bond, and under their mother’s leadership, they’re confident the team’s best is yet to come.

Other standout pairs included Coach Katrina Ross and her daughter, Emerson, of Notre Dame Prep, Coach Carrie Chapman and her daughter, Katy, of John Burroughs School, and Coach Jill Cosse and her daughter, Adie, of West Essex. The Invitational was especially memorable for the Cosses, who also got to cheer on Adie’s older sister and West Essex alum, Evie Minella, as she took the field for Villanova against Northwestern on September 21.

One of the most remarkable duos came from Smyrna, Delaware, where Bree Moffett and her mom, Coach Loveita Moffett, have shared the player-coach dynamic since Bree first picked up a stick. “Having your mom as your coach is really the best of both worlds,” Bree shared. “I know she always has my best interest in mind, and she pushes me to do hard things. She’s been with me every step of the way.”

Being coached by a parent is something few athletes experience. For these duos, though, field hockey isn’t just a sport. It’s a shared journey that strengthens the already unbreakable bond between mother and daughter.
