We are excited to welcome Maddie McKenney to the Longstreth/OBO Athlete Program!
Maddie plays for Powerhouse Field Hockey Club and Methacton High School where she will be a junior this year. Maddie was also named in the Top 100 in the Class of 2026 by Max Field Hockey.
Get To Know The Goalies
What stick do you use and why do you use it?
I use the OBO Straight AS stick because it is straight and strong like a field player stick, but is also light and balanced giving me all of the agility I need in the cage for those high and wide saves.
What kickers, leg guards and helmet do you use and why?
OBO ROBO FG Helmet, ROBO Hi Rebound Leg Guards, & ROBO Hi Rebound Kickers. I use the OBO ROBO FG Helmet because it is very stable, while also giving me perfect vision through the cage. I also love it because I use the space in the back to put my ponytail through. I use the Hi Rebound Leg Guards because they have a lot of surface area, but they’re also thin enough that it is easy to be agile. I use the Hi Rebound kickers because I like the square point on the toe of the kickers to keep the ball flat and have more efficient clears.
How Long have you been playing field hockey? What made you first want to play keeper?
I have been playing field hockey since 7th grade, and I started playing goalie late into our 7th grade season. I played attack on the field but wasn’t very skilled at it. After the 8th grade goalie got hurt, one of my friends told me she thought that I should become the new goalie. I wasn’t fond of the idea at first , but I started to like it more after I had tried it. I have been a goalie ever since then and last year they gave me the nickname “Brick Wall”.
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
I always put my hair in a slick back and almost always eat an apple sauce before I leave.
What's your go-to pre-game meal?
I like to have meals full of protein, so I usually go for a tuna or chicken sandwich.
What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
A ponytail braid through the back of my helmet that swings around while Im back there making saves.

Describe your playing style in 3 words.
Aggressive, confident, agile
What do you like to do when you’re not playing field hockey?
My favorite thing to do when I am not playing field hockey is to hang out with my friends and go to the beach. I also love spending time with my family and cooking with my dad.
Do you have any game day superstitions?
I always have to have my ponytail sticking out of my helmet no matter what.
What’s your favorite quote?
“You get out what you put in”. I love this quote because it reminds people that improvement comes with hard work, and you will only improve as much as you push yourself to.
What are you looking forward to most in the upcoming season?
Last season is pretty hard to beat, considering we won the PACs, but this season I am looking forward to watching my team work hard, and having a possible repeat of last year and maybe even a strong run in Districts or States.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
Winning the PAC Conference championship with all my best friends on the high school team, and we let in zero goals, including a penalty corner save after time had expired.
