Faye Post - OBO Ambassador

We are happy to announce that Faye Post has joined the Longstreth/OBO Athlete Program!

Faye has been playing field hockey for 14 years and has been a goalkeeper for 9 of those years. She attends Northwestern University where she will be a Sophomore in the fall. In the upcoming season, Faye says she is most looking forward to spending more time with her teammates and hopefully repeating some of the on-field successes her team had last year.

Get To Know The Goalies

What stick do you use and why do you choose it?
I use the OBO Robo Straight As because I really wanted a straight stick like a typical field stick, but I liked that the Straight As was still designed specifically for goalkeepers.

What legguards, kickers, and helmet do you use and what made you choose them?
Right now I am using the OBO Robo Hi-Rebound Legguards and the OBO Robo Plus Kickers. I chose these pieces of equipment because they truly feel like a second skin and allow me to get a powerful, yet controllable rebound. They let me play the game exactly how I want. For my helmet, I use a Promasque because they have an excellent track record of preventing concussions and other head injuries which is something I really care about. They also do great custom paint jobs which allows me to express my creativity on my gear just like how I express it on the field.

How long have you been playing field hockey and what made you first want to start playing goalkeeper?
I have been playing field hockey for 14 years and have been a goalkeeper for the last 9. I was first a goalie in lacrosse and was not really liking playing field in field hockey. However, my hometown has a really strong tradition in field hockey so my mom wanted me to keep playing and suggested I switch to goalkeeper. I decided to give it a try at my high school’s summer camp and immediately fell in love with the position and have been playing ever since.

Do you have any pre-game rituals?
I don’t think I have any personal pre-game rituals, but my team at Northwestern definitely has some good ones. We always start with a dance circle in the locker room with some of our favorite songs. Then we sing Hey! Baby with a little Wildcat twist on our way from the locker room to the field.

What's your go to pre-game meal?
Honestly, I don’t like to eat too soon before a game, but I will if the whole team is eating together. For morning games, I like a breakfast of bacon and eggs. For afternoon or night games, I like to make myself a sandwich with turkey, cheese, lettuce, mayo, and sometimes hummus for lunch.

What is your go-to game day hairstyle?
My game day hairstyle is definitely more function than form. It’s a very tight low bun. It might not be the most stylish, but it keeps my hair smooth under my helmet and makes sure it stays off my neck.

What is your favorite pump-up song(s) to listen to before a game?
My teammates really have control of the aux before games, but on my own, my favorite pre-game song is Little Girl Gone by Chinchilla.

Describe your playing style in three words.
Composed. Decisive. Talkative.

What do you like to do when you're not playing field hockey?
I don’t have too much time outside of field hockey, but when I do, I like to read, draw, spend time with my dog, Gypsy, and as I grew up on a lake and now go to school by a much bigger one, I really enjoy watersports such as boating, jet skiing, paddleboarding, kayaking, water skiing, and a few more.

Do you have any game day superstitions?
I, myself, do not have any game day superstitions, but I happily help out my more superstitious teammates. Whether that be doing things in a certain order, doing certain hairstyles, or sitting in particular seats on the bus for away trips.

What's your favorite motivational quote?
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” (I actually have this quote framed on my desk)

What are you looking forward to most in the upcoming season?
My favorite part of season is definitely spending time with my teammates. They are some of my absolute favorite people, so hanging out with them and playing hockey with them are the best parts of my day. Of course, I also hope to repeat a lot of the on-field success we had last year because winning always makes the team even closer and reinforces that amazing team culture.

What is your favorite field hockey memory?
This is a really tough question as I have so many. I can probably narrow it down to my top three. The first is when my club team won our pool at NITs for the first time. Our team was really close and finally winning after trying for many years was really special. The second was when my high school team beat our rival during my senior year on their home turf. I had never beaten them before, so to finally accomplish that with my teammates, coaches, and loved ones watching from the sideline was a pretty incredible feeling. Finally, my most recent favorite was this past year winning two Big Ten titles, both in dramatic fashion, beating Rutgers in a shootout and Maryland in double overtime. Both games were very stressful, but rewarding in the end and the celebrations with my teammates after the games are some of my fondest and most fun memories.

What school do you go to?
Northwestern University (Go ‘Cats!)
