10/2 - #5 (NewEng) Walpole (MA) vs #25 Uxbridge (MA) *Walpole, 1-0
As mentioned in our preview last week, Walpole and Uxbridge have only met once before, during the 2023 season. Uxbridge came away with the victory in that 1-0 game, and BOTH teams went on to win the State Championship in their respective division. The 10/2 matchup let Walpole remain undefeated in the 2024 season, as they defeated Uxbridge in another one-goal game. (Walpole, 1-0).
Junior Kate Schneider scored for Walpole, the game’s only goal, less than six minutes in. Walpole goalie Aideen Smith showed up with 7 big saves and was a crucial factor in the team’s defensive effort, helping Walpole to their 25th straight win.
The Uxbridge Spartans were able to generate eight offensive corners - including one in the first sixteen seconds!- but they were unable to convert on those, or other attacking opportunities in the game.
Aside from that lone game-winning-goal, Goalie Julia Okenquist was stellar, with 12 saves on the rest of the game.

Bishop Watterson, ranked #11 in the West-Midwest Top 20, boasts 5 State Championship titles, with the most recent being back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021. Watterson has had an extremely successful season so far, with a record of 13-2-1 as of today, 7-0 in conference play!
Columbus Academy, who is a Considered team in the WMW Rankings, has twelve state championships, with another six runner-up seasons. They are 14-1-1 on the season and also 7-0 in conference. All of their wins have been shutouts or one-goal games, and they have just one 3-0 loss to Upper Arlington this season.
Local Ohio media rankings hold these two teams in the top five, with Watterson at #2 and Columbus Academy at #3. This was an intense, close game last year, with Watterson winning 1-0. We’re looking forward to seeing the results of this rivalry match up!
