Q: How did your journey in field hockey begin? What does this accomplishment mean to you in relation to your time spent involved in the sport?
A: I started playing field hockey when I was very young because my family played field hockey. So, I have grown up playing with my sisters and my cousins and competing with them. I did not like playing as much when I was very young, but as I grew older, I began to love it. Since I started so young and spent so much time practicing and growing, this accomplishment means the world to me. I would not have been able to accomplish this without the help of my family, coaches, and teammates. Although I am very proud of this accomplishment, it makes me excited to continue to work hard and accomplish more!
Q: What do you love most about field hockey?
A: I love the competitiveness of the sport of field hockey. I love competition not only in field hockey but also in other sports. I also love the new people I have met and the friendships that I have made from field hockey. Field hockey has not only allowed me to grow as an athlete but also a person.
Q: What were your field hockey goals entering your senior year at Delmar? Were there any routines, skills, or drills on which you focused over the summer in preparation for the season to work toward achieving those goals?
A: I had one goal for my senior year at Delmar, and that was to win one last state championship. That was the goal for every other year but this year was most important to me. To prepare for the season, something I focused on was my endurance and physical shape. I wanted to be able to run an entire game without being tired, and over the summer, I was able to do running and lifting workouts with my team. Those workouts not only helped tremendously during the season but also helped our entire team. Field hockey wise, I wanted to just focus on the basics and continue to work on those.
Q: What did leading Delmar to 4 consecutive State Championships mean to you?
A: Winning those state championships meant everything to me and I am so proud of the work that all of my teammates put in as well. The state championship was always our goal at the beginning of each year, and we worked as hard as we could to achieve that goal. I am so grateful to have experienced those championships and to have created so many memories.
Q: Name your proudest moment or a significant response to a setback/challenge from the season.
A: My proudest moment from the season was the overtime win in the semi finals to send us to the state championship. My teammates played their hearts out and that is why we were able to win that game then go on to win the state championship. I will remember that game for the rest of my life and I am so proud of my team for how hard they worked.
In 2025, Jordyn will play field hockey at the University of Maryland!
