Hi, my name is Emily Risser and I am a student athlete at Ohio University on the field hockey team. I am also involved in Morgan’s Message. Morgan’s Message is a mental health organization that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health, specifically in athletics. Most people that observe from the outside focus mainly on the physical aspect of sports rather than the mental side. Morgan’s message is working on ending the stigma by normalizing conversations related to mental health.

I got involved in Morgan’s Message through one of my teammates, Katelyn Whittle, who actually started the Morgan’s Message chapter at Ohio University. When I came in as a freshman, I immediately took interest and began to attend meetings to get more involved. In the meetings we discuss normalizing conversations related to mental health in athletics and the everyday world, as well as supporting each other. I am currently a part of the Executive Board and help out with the Morgan’s Message games, where teams at OU dedicate one of their home games to raise awareness. To learn more about Morgan’s Message, go to www.morgansmessage.org. On their website you will also find information about how to become an ambassador!
